How does an electric motor starter work?

I havea starter from a 220 volt motor on a doe machine. The contactor will pull in by bypassing the amperage part. We think it may be wired wrong. do you have a wiring diagram for a starter?

You may need a licensed electrician to ensure proper wiring to avoid a hazard to personnel and machines including possible fire and electrocution. Your insurance company would likely insist on it. Not all controllers and electrical codes are identical.
